Le projet d’embellissement fut tout en touché, à la manière des impressionnistes, adapté aux orientations et aux distances et aux vitesses de perception. La réponse architecturale se doit d’être différente pour une perception furtive depuis un axe routier par exemple, ou prolongée depuis une zone résidentielle ou une aire récréative. Retravailler les grands édifices qui caractérisent ce type d’installation aurait été vain et bien évidemment hors budget. Depuis la mer, j’optais pour une solution pointilliste, à savoir focaliser l’attention de l’observateur sur des détails bien maîtrisés. Je disposais des triangles de couleur, comme des voiles de bateaux disputant une régate, simplement peints et judicieusement disposés pour animer l’ensemble et capter l’attention des observateurs. De cette masse informe, monumentale, austère et hostile ne se détachaient plus que les triangles dynamiques, frais et récréatifs. Ces mêmes triangles de couleurs ont été reconduits en des points clefs de l’usine pour constituer un système de signalétique intra-muros…
The embellishment project was all about touch, in the manner of the Impressionists, adapted to different orientations, distances and speeds of perception. The architectural response had to be different for a stealthy perception from a main road, for example, or a prolonged one from a residential or recreational area. Reworking the large buildings that characterize this type of installation would have been pointless and obviously out of budget. From the sea, I opted for a pointillist solution, i.e. focusing the observer’s attention on well-mastered details. I used colored triangles, like the sails of boats competing in a regatta, simply painted and judiciously arranged to animate the whole and capture the observer’s attention. From this shapeless, monumental, austere and hostile mass, only the dynamic, fresh and recreational triangles stood out.
